Deborah McDonald, the daughter of Helen and the late Bill McDonald, announced her engagement and forthcoming marriage to Christopher Russell, son of Darrell and the late Valerie Russell. 

The bride-elect received an associates degree from the West Plains campus of SMSU, a bachelor degree in marketing and a master's degree in business administration from Southwest Missouri State University.  She was third-runner up to Miss America in 1998, representing Missouri.  She is now studying advertising and completing a Ph.D. in journalism from the University of Missouri. 

Russell received a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from Iowa State University.  He is an engineer with the Caterpillar Corporation, and is completing a master's degree in business administration at the University of Missouri. 

The wedding was held at 7 p.m. June 2, 2001 at First Baptist Church in Columbia, Missouri.
